I am quite open in my passion for story telling, regularly using the written word as an inspiration for my work, fixing on a piece of text as the start point for a series of sketches that will evolve into the finished piece. My work is not illustrative of the text, but delights in the re-telling, the sentiment or idea.
I have always painted women. Even as a child, I was fascinated by the relationships between women, family and friends, and their interaction with men. Now the work I make gives me the opportunity to depict women as I see them around me - as strong, seductive, powerful beings. And I relish the beauty in the contours of the feminine shape. I am drawn to the female form, and just don't find men as interesting to paint.
My aim is to imbue my paintings with mystery and enigma. My multi-layered work makes no apology for being erotic, and I enjoy celebrating women’s sexuality and reflecting their power and tenacity.
I was born and live in London and have been storytelling on canvas since leaving Chelsea School of Art 1991.
