'The Storyteller' figure holds her story in her body, in a tree, in a toy theatre, in a book. It is of being held captive in a jar and imprisoned for all to witness. Underneath is her inner child. She holds her story, she can finally tell it because there are angels around her holding her in place. I based it around the words by Carl Jung- 'No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell.'

'Tinker Tailor'- the title comes from the nursery rhyme; I am very influenced by fairy tales, nursery rhymes, children's stories. I wanted to make the figure a character- a tailor creating her own bespoke gown, like an autobiographical dress. The dress says 'raw like sushi' partly to describe herself to others, but also taken from the title of Neneh Cherry's 1989 album. The tailor is sewing and creating her own version of femininity, of magic and transformation. Her child pokes her head out at the bottom, alongside a sleeping cat.

This painting is of an inner world- a secret garden where a doll has found a broken piece of a woman- her hips and legs- and is trying to unpick her threads, to free her, to heal that part of the woman. The garden is full of colour, bulbous, free- and the girl doll is a tiny healer.

'After' is a character study of sorts. The figure has been a warrior, has battled through a hellish storm and this is her face, her neck, her demeanour. My intention was to paint what was going on inside of her soul on her face. She is a spiritual being having a human experience.
