The painting captures Reeves in the moments before delivering her first Budget in 2024. Depicting the United Kingdom’s first female Chancellor after more than 800 years of male predecessors, the painting marks a pivotal moment in British political history, as the Treasury becomes the last of the great Offices of State to be led by a woman. The Chancellor is shown rehearsing with advisers, her speech laid out before her, with the iconic red Budget box behind her and a subtle chequered motif referencing the historic origins of the Exchequer — underscoring the continued progress of women in politics. My work is intended to be a contemporary history painting, capturing a defining moment for women’s equality in British political history. I wanted to create a work which reflected both the weight of historic lineage and captured a significant first for women’s leadership and representation in UK politics. Based on a photo reference image by Simon Dawson.

This is a portrait of my son, capturing a moment while playing his guitar. Music has been transformative for him as he has entered his teenage years. As a mother, I wanted to record the significance of music to him at this moment of rapid change and development.
