There are ideas of containment and freedom here. The need to run and the need to remain. The support of friendship and also of trusting an inner strength and certainty about what is right. The hutch behind the figures is a memory of one made by the artists father for rabbits. The animal is however, a hare. Hares do not thrive in captivity. They have much ancient symbolism attached to them and represent fertility, luck, quickness, cunning and faithfulness. There is an ecco here of 17th Century still life but this hare appears to be leaping over the girls shoulder or is perhaps part of her.

Oil and ink on Canvas

h: 125 w: 95 d: 3 (cms).

This painting looks at ideas around habit and addictive behaviour. What we take into our body and the things we crave, the pleasure and the damage which these things can do to us. It is also about the ritual of these habits . The print brings to mind the head of the opium poppy. We see the lungs of the racing dog, an organ which interacts physically with the air and which brings into the body the oxygen of life as well as particles of smoke and pollen, sent and pollution.
