June Carey RSW RGI SWA SSA PAI studied at Glasgow School of Art in 1959 and Edinburgh College of Art in 1981.
W. Gordon Smith reviewed her first major solo exhibition at Glasgow Print Studio in 1993 :
"Her presence, even in the biggest of salons in the best of company, has been signalled by one of her naked figures whose gender is often uncertain.
All of this is accomplished with fastidious subtlety and skill from the prodigious source of her imagination. She allows her subconscious to dictate to her and long ago took the courageous decision to follow its instant lead without question even when some of the images she summons threaten to unnerve her’
Carey's work has been included in numerous prestigious group exhibitions both nationally and internationally, including Eton College, Windsor: Mercury Gallery London: Olsztyn Castle, Poland: Pallant House, Chichester: Mall Galleries London: Royal Scottish Academy Edinburgh: Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, Glasgow and Glasgow Print Studio exhibition, touring Berlin, London, Bath, Iceland, Madrid & Los Angeles.
2024 Invitation by Stirling Smiths Art Gallery & Museum to paint two murals, now permanently displayed in the entrance to the Museum. (Stirling Smiths Art Gallery & Museum, Dumbarton Road, Stirling)
2021 Carey was invited by The Folio Society, London, to create a set of drawings to illustrate their Limited Edition book "Rob Roy" by Sir Walter Scott, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth.
